Ladies, Guns & Cowboys

Over the weekend Jacob and I went to visit his family in Statesville.  Both Saturday and Sunday turned out to be BEAUTIFUL. We had clear blue skies, bright sunshine and 62 degree weather. That combination alone is giving everyone here spring fever! (Not to mention the daffodils and  crocus are popping up, which makes for one happy girl.).

While Jacob was cutting down limbs that had broken off from a tree at his parents house, the rest of us spent the afternoon at the shooting range (with an instructor of course).

This was my first time at an outdoor range and third time shooting.  There were a lot of safety rules and guidelines we had to go over and learn before we were allowed to shoot.  Our instructor made sure we knew (he stressed the fact) that even with just handling a gun, came a huge responsibility.  He was a great teacher.  Simply put, he was amazing.

 Safety, Safety, Safety

We each took turns shooting which allowed the instructor to go over more safety issues with us as a group and individually.  The target was set at different distances and our goal was to put 30 rounds on the target.

I shot 34 rounds because I missed 4.

While at the range we were fortunate enough to witness a Cowboy Action Shooting event.  These cowboys and cowgirls were the real deal and almost all them were Sheriffs, according to their badges anyways. :] They were shooting the same kind of pistols and rifles used back in the late 1800's.  This was a timed competition where they shot in a certain sequence while switching out guns.  It was an incredible experience to watch, almost felt as if we had been transported back to the days of the wild wild west.
